“Make a friend, be a friend, bring a friend to Christ!”

A note to all Cursillistas from the Lay Director.

Hi.  My name is Glenn Angell.  This past June I was elected by the members of the Secretariat to assume the position of Lay Director for Cursillo in Maine.  Now I know there are some of you out there who don’t know what a Lay Director is or does.  I also know there are people out there who don’t know me.  I’m not going to give you a job description.  Nor am I going to give you my biography.  Finally, I’m not going to give you a list of goals, objectives or actions that I want to accomplish over the next three years.  What I am going to do is give you an answer for all of those, just in a very special way.

I lived my 3 days in April of 2006.  At the end of the weekend, I was called forward, given a cross and Father Ray said these five words:  “Christ is counting on You!”  And that’s what I want to talk about now.

This past fall, the Secretariat very reluctantly cancelled both the men’s and women’s weekends.  Why?  Simple, we just didn’t have enough candidates to put on a weekend.  How many should we have to do a weekend?  In reality we can squeak by with six (and have done some with only 5).  Why 6: so we can have two tables of candidates.  It’s not ideal (for me I view 12-15 as ideal so there are 3 tables of 4 or 5).  Our hope, and prayer, at that time was that we would get the additional candidates to enable us to hold weekends in the spring.

As of Tuesday, January 10, 2017, we still had only the same two candidates for a men’s weekend that we had last August 15th.  With a men’s weekend scheduled for March 30th to April 2nd.  Because of Camp Mechuwana needs, we must notify them as to whether we will hold a weekend 45 days in advance of the start date.

So why am I telling you this?  Because Christ is Counting on YOU (and ME).  For Brother Jesus to work His magic on a weekend, he needs each one of us to deepen our Piety, expand our Study, and boldly Act for Him.  While I fully understand that trying to find someone new today for a weekend two months from now doesn’t leave time to properly talk with Jesus about the person and build a true friendship with him/her, unless we begin now we will face the same problems next fall and beyond.  Christ needs us, NOW.  He is counting on us, TODAY.

So to answer those questions above:

1.       Who am I?  A struggling Christian trying to do a better job for Christ.

2.       What does a Lay Director do?  Work to help each of you be a better Christian too.

3.       What is my goal?  To work so that each and every one of us can do a better job of being the best “me” that we can be for Christ.

God Bless and de Colores!
